Natural Lodge Caño Negro

Natural Lodge is fortunate to have the perfect location on the edge of the Caño Negro Wildlife reserve – a unique wetland ecosystem. The lodge is very actively involved in re-forestation and conservation. The 42 rooms sit amongst beautiful landscaped gardens. Each room has a small veranda with seating, a nice spot to relax and take in the lovely surroundings. There is plenty to do to keep you busy – cycling, boating, fishing and hiking – but when you are not out and about, there is a pool with a swim-up bar serving cocktails and snacks, a Jacuzzi to ease your tired muscles or if you prefer to be more active there are badminton courts, table tennis and mini golf available. The Jabiru restaurant, named after the largest flying bird in Central America, serves up some delicious local and international dishes, the food is excellent and there is plenty of variety.

Why go to Natural Lodge Caño Negro?

This wetlands reserve is considered one of the most important areas of biodiversity in Costa Rica and is well worth a visit. Natural Lodge is the perfect base from which to explore this unique habitat. It is home to over 350 species of local and migratory birds. There are plenty of waterways and canals to explore . When relaxing at the lodge, from your own veranda you can spot many species of birds and also the cheeky monkeys that will pop down from time to time to check you out.

Wildlife around Natural Lodge Caño Negro

This is a great location for both migratory and local birds. Those of particular importance are the roseat spoonbill, white ibis and wood stork – but there are plenty of others too. Jaguars and ocelots are also found here, but they are shy and elusive so if you do see any, you are incredibly lucky. There are plenty of iguanas, river turtles, caimans, monkeys and anteaters to see too – just keep your eyes peeled and let nature unfold in front of you.
