Hacienda La Isla

Hacienda La Isla Boutique Lodge is tucked away in the foothills of Braulio Carrillo National Park. Surrounded by beautiful gardens which are an extension of the rainforest, the hacienda is steeped in Spanish colonial charm and history.
Originally founded by the Vega Figueroa family, part of the farm was converted in 2008 by the current owner to the boutique lodge that it is today.

The simply furnished rooms are all different in design and each has a name rather than a number. The different names are a nod to a historical period or occasion in Costa Rican history. Antique furnishings and artefacts continue the colonial theme.

The kitchen serves excellent Tico fusion food and is prepared using fresh, local ingredients as far as possible, seasonal fruits from the hacienda’s orchards appear on the breakfast table each morning, together with freshly baked breads and other delights. Guest can enjoy their meals in the open restaurant looking out onto the gardens, river and rainforest beyond, sheltered from the elements by a high palm thatched roof.

The lodge has an environmentally friendly approach and promotes a good sustainability programme. Almost all of the staff are from the local area too.

Why go to Hacienda La Isla?

Visitors to Hacienda La Isla receive a warm welcome at this family run lodge. It’s small and intimate and well placed for discovering both Braulio Carrillo National Park and the Selva Verde Biological Station. Adventure seekers can also enjoy day trips on the river, be it a sedate boat trip or a wild white water rafting excursion. The beautiful gardens and walking trail harbour a variety of wildlife and birds and they are an extension of the verdant rainforest that surrounds the lodge. Explore then independently or book one of the guided tours for a deeper insight into the history of this area and the flora and fauna it supports.

Wildlife around Hacienda La Isla

The lodge enjoys a good variety of wildlife within its grounds. In particular, you will notice the howler monkeys – you will see them and you will most definitely hear them. There’s an array of birdlife including toucans, and frogs are plentiful. You’re 10 minutes drive from Braulio Carrillo National Park where you can seek out two- and three-toed sloths, more toucans, macaws, spider monkeys and peccaries.
